The heat exchangers must comply with certain requirements of efficiency and safety
Heat exchangers for chemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing plants are generally composed of two chambers: the shell side and the tube side (usually made of austenitic stainless steel). The primary fluid circulates on the shell side, while the secondary fluid flows through the tube side, with the purpose of cooling the primary fluid.
In the heat exchanger, the primary and secondary fluids enter through dedicated connections, while the outlet occurs through vents and drain connections.
The various components of pressure equipment are joined together by welds and bolted joints.
Like any pressure vessel, heat exchangers for chemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing plants are classified into a specific risk category in accordance with the PED 97/23/EC directive.
